MATH LEAGUEIs open to students in 7th and 8th graders who are interested in creative problem solving. There are 4 competitions throughout the school year. Students work individually to solve various math problems. Individual scores are combined for a team score.
BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICAIs a student run organization that gives students a chance to enhance their business skills and compete against other students locally and nationally. It is open to 7th and 8th grade students.
FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA Is a National Organization based on agricultural sciences, leadership and community outreach. The state FFA conference is usually held in March. FFA members participate in various projects including landscaping the marquee in the front of the school.
ODYSSEY OF THE MIND Provides creative problem solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competitions on the local, state, and World level. MMS had 3 teams compete in this year’s competition.
SCIENCE OLYMPIAD Science Olympiad teams participate in rigorous academic competitions that consist of team events that involve knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science applications. Emphasis is on learning, participation, interaction, having fun and developing team spirit. Usually Meredith Middle fields two teams at the state wide competition.
YEARBOOK The yearbook student staff is selected through an interview process with the advisor, Mrs. Harrison. Once staff is selected, they complete their assignments both after school and independently.
STUDENT COUNCIL Elections for homeroom representatives and alternates are held in the beginning of the school year. There are also elections for leadership positions. Student Council plans various activities throughout the school year.
INTRAMURAL SPORTS Field Hockey and Football (Fall), Basketball (Winter), Volleyball (Spring).
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, Citizenship. Students must have a B average or better and have participated in community service/volunteer activities to be considered.
